Body Sensing Sounds – Masterclass by Andi Otto
Saturday 23 March 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Teatro Cafè Muller – Via Paolo Sacchi 18d

Andi Otto is a sound artist from Hamburg and a teacher in the Sound Arts department at HKB Bern. His artistic production is always directed towards the study of the role of the human body in electronic music and digital media. The aim of the masterclass is an exchange with interdisciplinary artists on today’s possibilities of individual, expressive and physical involvement with digital media. The masterclass touches on three aspects of this topic:

  • HISTORY OF STEIM / NEW MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: Insight into the history of experimental sensory interfaces developed at STEIM in Amsterdam. For her PhD project ‘Dutch Touch’, Andi Otto researched STEIM’s SensorLab, a device pioneered in the 1980s to connect gestures and digital media via sensors.
  • FELLO : insight into and demonstration of the “Fello”, the sensor-enriched cello bow built by the artist himself, which allows the performer to further process the sound of the instrument with movements of the bow in the air.

Discounted cost for SMET: 15€ + 5€ membership fee for the Pietra Tonale Association.

Registration by email pietratonale@gmail.com enclosing a copy of the student’s transcript.
