Alvin Curran ha realizzato una carriera lunga e fruttuosa come compositore, performer, installazionista, scrittore e insegnante sulla scia della tradizione americana di musica sperimentale. Nato a Providence nel 1938, ha studiato con Ron Nelson, Elliott Carter e Mel Powell e ha cofondato il gruppo Musica Elettronica Viva nel 1966 a Roma, dove vive tuttora. La sua musica, che si tratti di opere cameristiche, di arte radiofonica, di performance solistiche o di teatro ambientale a grande scala, abbraccia tutti i suoni, tutti gli spazi, tutte le persone. Bio completa.

Workshop: The workshop will include the students having a chance to analyze, learn and perform on Curran’s “Endangered Species” Kontact patch for an 88 note midi keyboard. This contains over 3000 sound files of music, natural ambients, animals, humans, and sounding places from all over the planet, it enables the player to “play the world” from their fingertips.

Live Performance “Shofar Rags XXL, AC + Signage”: The most recent version of “Shofar Rags XXL” (Liner notes for the CD) using a MaxMSP application designed by Angelo Maria Farro hence a music generated by a most ancient, archaic, and primitive wind instrument driving up to 6 oscillators and other spontaneous electronic music creative systems. “Signage” is a performance piece for “conductor” and instrumental ensemble of any number of instruments both acoustic and electronic The conductor uses cards with symbols and instructions and aims at creating a spontaneously “composed” and structured Improvisation. Students will have the chance to perform and conduct!
